COPTHILL SCHOOL - AUTUMN 2019 NEWSLETTER
Music + Arts
The most wonderful time of the year!
As well as being the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas is certainly one of the busiest times of the year in the Music Department!
The last two weeks have seen the Reception Nativity, The Nursery ‘Moment’, the Inner Wheel Concert, the Uffington Villagers’ Concert, the Music Department Christmas Evening Concert and, as I write, we still have the Lower School Christingle Service and the Upper School Carol Concert yet to come!
Christmas is certainly a feast of concerts at Copthill, but there was no shortage of activity during the rest of the Autumn Term. We began our year of concerts with the Harvest Festival and, as usual, all the children in the school had their time to shine.
Hot on the heels of this was a most moving Remembrance Day service, led by our very talented Year 6 children. As well as the thought-provoking readings, they sang a beautiful song that really showcased their wonderful singing voices.
Our instrumentalists have had a busy time during the annual Prep School Music Days at both Oundle and Oakham Schools. The children were thrilled to be part of such demanding and high quality music-making. Each event presented slightly different musical challenges for the children, and they took part in stunning concerts that our parents were able to attend.
Closer to home, the Copthill School Choir joined other local primary and prep schools for a Royal British Legion Concert in Stamford. The children enjoyed collaborating with other schools, as well as sharing ideas and good practice.
The Choir and Orchestra Christmas Party rewarded our very hard-working members with a great opportunity to let their hair down and take part in the now legendary talent competition! A rendition of ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ won the day and sums up my final sentiments of the term!
Have a wonderful Christmas and have a really good rest, because it is going to be a busy Spring Term!
