COPTHILL SCHOOL - SUMMER 2020 NEWSLETTER

Sport

A year of success, and then garden games.

What a very strange term! We were beyond lucky to get our Year 5 Saxons Sports Tour to North Yorkshire completed before lockdown was put in place. The new location and experience offered at Bewerley Park was superb and I am confident we will be returning in the future. Autumn term saw the Girls’ ISA Hockey Tournament at the Olympic Park in London. The girls exceeded our expectation and came second in the Plate final after negotiating two sets of penalty flicks! The ISA Rugby team reached the quarter finals after an exhausting day and the ISA Dance Squad were awarded third place on the national stage. Spring term was our golden term. Our Boys’ ISA Hockey team were crowned National Champions as they finished on nail-biting penalty shuffles lifting the ball over the goalie into the top corner! The girls then gained their first ever qualification for the ISA National Netball Tournament. Their hard work and dedication to progress between rounds meant they came away with a wonderful bronze medal in the Bowl Competition. Summer term wasn’t the one we had planned for. All fixtures were left unplayed as we all did our part to stay at home and protect the NHS. It certainly didn’t mean that sport was on hold though! Many of our wonderful children engaged in the sports lessons sent home and I really enjoyed seeing videos of them taking on the cricket challenges and practising their Sports Day events. As is the case for so many, we don’t currently know what September will look like for sport. It is unsure when fixtures will resume but we are confident that we have so much sport and camaraderie to offer within Copthill that we will get the children back active and engaged with accessible sports as soon as we can.
