COPTHILL SCHOOL - SUMMER 2020 NEWSLETTER

Year 6 leavers

A very special year.

Year 6 have certainly had a very different end to their final year at Copthill than expected! We were thrilled that the whole year group was able to return to school at the start of this half term. They demonstrated fantastic attitudes to their lockdown learning, coped brilliantly with all the changes and immersed themselves back into Copthill life with enthusiasm and their normal desire to make the most of every opportunity! With the gorgeous weather, we have been able to do a huge amount of our learning outside, including completing our ‘eco-warriors’ science topic by learning about sustainability and making our own eco-friendly seed bombs, which we were able to plant near our new bee hives. We feel very grateful to have been together to share some very important PSHE lessons where we could discuss our thoughts, questions and hopes, including reflecting on lockdown and thinking forward to secondary school transitions. As part of their English work, Year 6 planned, created and filmed their very own video prospectus, giving them a chance to express just how proud of the school they are. We have also made the most of the fabulous Copthill grounds, kayaking, river-dipping, rope-jumping, tubing, climbing and holding our own archery competitions - Robin Hood watch out! With all of this excitement, it is amazing to think that we have also been able to squeeze in practising and filming for our Year 6 showcase acts, demonstrating the wonderful talents of all the Year 6 children - we can’t wait to invite you to ‘be our guests’ to watch this very special DVD. We are so proud of each and every one of our Year 6 children and all they have achieved in their time at Copthill. My final thanks are to Year 6. We have overcome so much together as a school and you helped to make the ‘new normal’ and to create special, lifelong memories for all of us. We will miss you all very much and wish you all the best in your new adventures.
